RESIDENTS in Lingdale and Guisborough are being urged to be vigilant after being misled into believing that they are putting out clothing for collection from charities.

Instead, it seems that the clothing is being collected by profit making organisations claiming to be collecting for third world countries, breast cancer charities and also children’s charities.

Leaflets have been distributed by these organisations, asking for bags of unwanted clothing and bedding to be put out for collection. The organisations do not provide a bag and the telephone numbers on the leaflets do not exist.

PC Gail Sutherland said: "If in any doubt about the authenticity of a collector don’t put anything out."

It is believed that the organisations have been operating all over England over the last year and a large Mercedes red and blue van has been sighted making the collections.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Gail Sutherland at Kirkleatham Police Office on 01642-302626.
