BUS and coach companies are being invited to discuss plans for park and ride schemes to cater for visitors to the Tall Ships’ Races 2010 finale in Hartlepool.

A consultation session is to take place on December 8 from 3.30pm to 5pm at the Innovation Centre on the town’s Queens Meadow Business Park.

It will give bus and coach companies an opportunity to find out more about Hartlepool Council’s plans ahead of the formal tendering process which is due to commence in early 2009.

Up to 100 tall ships are expected to be berthed in the town from August 7 to 10, 2010 after sailing from Kristiansand in Norway on the second and final leg of the Tall Ships’ Races.

Up to one million visitors are expected.

Tall Ships Project manager Michelle Daurat said: "At the moment, we are looking to have five park and ride sites, along with two park and stride schemes, to cater for the expected influx of visitors.

"We would encourage companies to come along to Monday’s consultation event and find out more about our plans."

An overview of preparations for the Tall Ships’ Races will be given along with information about how businesses can get involved generally.

There will also be opportunities for bus and coach company representatives to have one-to-one discussions with council transportation officials.

Companies wishing to attend should telephone Sue Stephenson at the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre on 01429-867677.
