FAMOUS faces have joined together to support a charity appeal to help provide disabled children in the region with mobility equipment.

Georgia Slowe who plays Perdita Hyde-Sinclair in Emmerdale and Ewen MacIntosh who played Keith in The Office, are supporting the Rising Starz campaign by the Yorkshire Building Society in aid of Whizz-Kidz.

Staff at the Northallerton branch of the YBS are hoping to do their bit raising funds. Manager Paula McGee said: "The right wheelchair at the right time can make a world of difference to a disabled child. I hope our existing customers and the general public will get behind the appeal so we can ensure Christmas will truly sparkle for disabled children this year."

Limited edition Christmas tree star decorations and mobile phone charms will be on sale at the branch until December 31. All money raised will be matched pound for pound by the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation.

Ms Slowe said: "I’m thrilled to be involved in this appeal with Whizz-Kidz and Yorkshire Building Society. I’ve seen first hand the remarkable difference a powered wheelchair can make to a disabled child who just wants the freedom to move around on their own - like other children their age."

Ewen MacIntosh, who dressed as Santa to launch the appeal, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to provide a priceless gift to a disabled child this Christmas - independence. I hope the public get behind the appeal and join me in covering their office, living room and Christmas tree with stars to support disabled children during the festive period."
