A SWISS man appeared in court today charged with the attempted murder of a 20-year-old woman in a York flat.
Steven Maillard, 26, was accused of attempting to murder Lucy Catherine Utley by repeatedly stabbing her with a Samurai sword at a flat in Lowther Street early on Saturday.
He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth when he stood in the dock at York Magistrates' Court.
Mr Maillard, also of Lowther Street, was remanded in custody and will now appear before a judge at Leeds Crown Court next Monday.
The victim was today said to be in a serious but stable condition in York Hospital, where she is being treated for heart, lung and other injuries.
