PUPILS donned their wellies and braved icy winds to plant permanent reminders of their school’s centenary year.

St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Coundon marked the end of its 100th year by planting 100 deciduous trees, with each pupil planting one into the ground.

Headteacher Stefa McManners said: "We’re not just dwelling on the past, but also looking to the future, and these trees will be here for future children at the school."

Green fingered pupils are also in the process of developing allotments, and plans are afoot for planting shrubs and bulbs to attract more wildlife into the school grounds.
