YOUNGSTERS from neighbouring schools have competed in a chess tournament.
Belmont School, in Durham, hosted the inaugural Inter School Chess Tournament for nearby primary schools last month.
The winner was Nathan Baker, a year six pupil at Cheveley Park primary school.
Runner up was Katy Clifford, also a year six pupil at Cheveley Park.
Both received Waterstones vouchers for their achievements.
Youngsters from St Thomas More RC School also took part.
Organiser Alex Taylor, learning resource centre manager at Belmont School, said the tournament went very well and he hoped it would be the first of many, attracting more schools in future.
