A HOST of Santas will be mingling with the crowds in Durham City on Sunday in a bid to raise cash for the Mayor’s charity.

The Santa Stroll has been organised by the She’s Gott It events company and all proceeds will go to The County Durham Society for the Blind and Partially sighted.

Those wishing to take part in the outing are asked to turn up at the courtyard of Durham Castle at 11am on Sunday when they will be provided with a red Santa suit.

Children going along on the charity walk-about will each be given a reindeer antler hat.

All those wanting to get in on the festive fundraising are asked to pre-register on www.durhamsantastroll.com.

Organisers are promising the event will see a “sea of red Santa suits bringing Christmas cheer to shoppers and visitors alike.’’ Urging as many people as possible to take part the Mayor of Durham, Grenville Holland said: “The Durham Santa Stroll is a very special new event in Durham’s Christmas calendar.

“It is for charity, it is for families and it is for people of all ages.’’ He added: “The offer of a Santa suit or antlers with the chance for a relaxed stroll around the river banks in the company of friends is an attractive prospect.

“The Mayoress and I, alongside surprise guest stars from radio and pantomime will be there to greet you in Durham Castle.’’
