MOTORISTS are being warned to take extra care at a road construction site - or face the possibility of fines and penalty points on their licences.
North Yorkshire County Council is constructing a new roundabout at the Treebridge junction of the A172 and B1292, Great Ayton.
Temporary traffic lights have been put in place to allow the work to proceed on schedule, and to protect workers.
However some motorists have been seen ignoring the red light to shave a minute or two off their journey times.
And now the highways department has called on the police to help enforce the traffic controls, backed with the sanction of a three point licence penalty and a £60 fine if necessary.
The construction of the new roundabout is due to be completed next spring.
