A MAN with profound learning disabilities will be able to enjoy cycle rides thanks to charitable donation from a building society.
Staff from the Northallerton branch of the Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) raised £1,500, which was donated to the local Mencap branch by its charitable foundation.
Mencap has used the money to buy a new tandem or "duet" bike for Robin Craggs. Local motorcyclist Bob Segdewick also donated £100 towards the bike.
Mr Craggs is one of five people with learning or physical disabilities living at White Lodge, in Bagby, near Thirsk.
Mencap staff member Martin Bell will provide the pedal power so Mr Craggs can enjoy getting out and about in Thirsk.
Bev Cox, from the YBS in Northallerton, said: "We’re delighted to support Mencap by donating money towards the new duet bike.
"White Lodge is a fantastic place where people with physical and learning disabilities can feel truly comfortable. The five residents at the lodge contribute to its running, helping out around the house and can make their own choices regarding their social and leisure activities - taking an afternoon bike ride now being one of these choices."
