A North Yorkshire care home has welcomed some furry and friendly visitors for animal therapy.
The Mayfield in Whitby, operated by Care UK and located on High Stakesby Road, recently hosted a visit from rabbits and alpacas as part of its programme to deliver joyful and enriching experiences for its residents.
The animals were brought to the home by Butterwick Alpaca Retreat, based in the heart of Butterwick, which is dedicated to educating people about these fascinating animals.
During their time at the care home, residents were able to feed and stroke the alpacas and learn about their care and behaviour, while also cuddling and pampering the rabbits.
Resident Vera Dale said: "I enjoyed the alpaca visit very much; it was lovely to have such a close encounter.
"I was pleased by how relaxed the rabbit was while I was holding him.
"It made me feel relaxed to have the animals around; it seemed to me that the alpaca had a twinkle in its eye and it was a mutually enjoyable experience."
Natalie Gill, home manager at The Mayfield, said animal therapy is something the team values.
Ms Gill said: "We’re always looking for fun and meaningful ways to brighten the residents’ days, and the animal visit was a real highlight.
"Animal therapy can have a wonderful impact.
"It’s calming, sparks conversation and brings plenty of smiles.
"The session was definitely a huge success, and it was lovely to hear residents reminisce and share their love for animals.
