Eston Precinct reaches major construction milestone

External brickwork and curtain walling are complete at Eston Precinct in Redcar and Cleveland, marking a major step forward.

Esh Construction is delivering the development for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, which will provide 14,650 sq ft of retail space across seven units.

Grant Watson, construction director at Esh Construction, said: "This recent progress marks a major milestone in the construction of the new Eston Precinct.

"Seeing the structure really starting to take shape is extremely rewarding for myself and the team, delivered in strong collaboration with our client.

More than 50,000 bricks in three types have been used in the design.

Ibstock Townhouse Blend and Old Grey English bricks are used in the main precinct, while Tay Buff bricks are used in the rear service yard.

Twenty-one curtain walling units have also been installed with colour-matched panels to protect the building.

Work is focused on installing security shutters, laying external paving and preparing the dock leveller area.

Work is also under way on the rear service yard, including kerbing and drainage.

Inside, fit-out work is well under way in units 3 to 7.

Plasterboard partitions are in place in kitchen and toilet areas, sanitaryware is being fitted and suspended ceilings have been installed in the toilets.

First-fix mechanical and electrical work is also progressing.

Upgraded public areas will include paving, trees, benches, better lighting and power for events and markets.

Councillor Lynn Pallister MBE, cabinet member for growth and enterprise, said: "It's fantastic to see the continued progress at Eston Precinct.

"We're creating a place that residents can be proud of and that businesses will want to be part of."

The UK Government and Tees Valley Combined Authority are funding the project.

Esh Construction is delivering the scheme with Identity Consult, SPACE Architects, Portland Consulting Engineers and Fairhurst.

The new precinct aims to revitalise Eston with high-quality shops and a smarter town centre.
