A footpath and cycleway in a North East town will be temporarily closed for a day for the installation of an antenna.

Gateshead Council has announced that the closure on Durham Road, Birtley, will take place on September 29.

The work is set to take place on the footway and cycleway to the east side of Durham Road, starting 18.4 metres south of the junction with Devon Crescent, and continuing north for 51.6 metres.

The work is expected to be completed on the same day.

During this period, all pedestrians and cyclists will be prohibited from using the footway and cycleway unless they are operatives associated with the works or emergency service operatives on duty.

A signed diversion will be in place for the duration of the works.
