Woman 'murdered' in Darlington flat named as care home worker

Leanne, who was pronounced dead in the flat above The Greyhound pub on Parkgate, would "do anything for anybody", colleagues at the Ventress Hall care home in Darlington said.

Two men were arrested - a 44-year-old on suspicion of murder, and a 27-year-old on suspicion of assisting an offender - after police were called around 9.15pm Wednesday (September 23).

Police and remain at the scene today (Friday, September 25), with a cordon still in place and white-suited CSI officers seen working inside.

Leanne's death has sparked an outpouring of tributes, including with bouquets of flowers left outside the pub.

One tribute reads: "Always in our hearts, taken too soon. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel".

Another says: "Our deepest sympathy and love during this hard time".

A further message reads: "RIP our beautiful Auntie. You are so loved and going to be a huge miss, love you always".

Another of Leanne's loved ones wrote: "RIP my best friend, I will miss you forever".

In a Facebook post Ventress Care Home, where Leanne worked, said: "I can't actually believe I am writing this, but it is with a heavy heart that I say we have lost our friend and work colleague, Leanne.

"Leanne was always so kind and would do anything for anybody, especially our residents.

"The world is beyond cruel and you have been taken too soon. We love you much Leanne. Love all your Ventress Work Family. You will never be forgotten. Our condolences to all Leanne's family."

Tributes also flooded in online for Leanne.

One person wrote: "Such a lovely woman. Just the other day we were chatting. So so gutted for your family and friends at this sad time."

A GoFundMe appeal set up by Natasha Nicholson has raised £4,323, in just 17 hours after it was set up.

It says: "As a community, we want to come together to support Leanne's family at this devastating time. We are raising funds to support the family through this difficult time and to provide for any additional needs the family may have as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.

"Every contribution, no matter how small, will help ease the burden and allow them the space to grieve without further worry.

"Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and compassion. Together, we can show them they are not alone. With heartfelt thanks."

The two men arrested remain in police custody.
