Police are investigating a suspected arson attack after recovering a petrol can near the scene of a three-car blaze.

Officers were called to Outram Street in Stockton at about 10.30pm on Friday (September 10), after receiving reports that three cars had been deliberately set on fire.

No one was injured in the fire, and all three damaged vehicles were recovered from the scene.

Cleveland Police are reviewing CCTV and speaking to local residents as part of their investigation, with officers appealing for footage of a light blue older-style Ford Fiesta.

Detectives are also examining the petrol can as they work to establish exactly what happened.

Detective Sergeant Jonathan Christie, of Stockton CID, said: "Enquiries are underway, including reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to neighbours, but we'd be keen to hear from anyone who may have information which may help our investigation.

"We'd urge members of the public to review dash cam or CCTV between 10.10pm and 10.45pm on Friday, September 10, in the areas of Outram Street, Westbourne Street, Parliament Street, Mandale Road and Victoria Bridge, as well as Thornaby and surrounding routes.

He added: "We'd be particularly keen to hear from anyone who has footage of a light blue older-style Ford Fiesta in those areas in the specified time as well as any suspicious activity occurring immediately before or after the fire."

Anyone with information should contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference 182314.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
