An East Cleveland bakery is the first business to open in the refurbished retail units at a train station.
Family-run bakery Lark opened at Redcar Central Station on Monday, September 14, as work continues to transform the transport hub.
The business, which serves premium coffee alongside cakes, bakes and other takeaway treats, is the first tenant to move into the revamped units following major refurbishment work at the station.
The opening is part of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s plan to revive the station and create a more welcoming gateway to the town.
Redcar Council leader Councillor Alec Brown welcomed the opening, saying he was pleased to see a local independent business lead the way.
He said: "I am over the moon to be welcoming a local business into the station, and we have more to come.
"This is the gateway to our town, and I'm so happy local businesses are the ones taking up the units. I wish Lark every success."
The opening is the first sign of the station’s retail revamp, with council leaders saying demand for the remaining units has been strong.
Several businesses are already having discussions about moving into the refurbished spaces, with just one unit still available.

The redevelopment of Redcar Central Station has been funded through support from the UK Government, the Tees Valley Combined Authority and the Railway Heritage Trust.
Council officials hope the improved station and new shops will attract more people to the town centre and help local businesses grow.
With one unit remaining and strong interest from prospective tenants, further announcements about businesses moving into the station could follow in the coming months.
