Cleveland Fire Brigade has confirmed the reason why fire engines were seen swarming a street in Hartlepool earlier today.
Four fire engines were called to an incident at Verrills Fish Shop in Hartlepool High Street on the morning of Wednesday, September 16.
Cleveland Fire Brigade said crews from Hartlepool, Billingham and Stockton attended the scene after being called out at 10am.
A total of four fire appliances responded to the incident, with firefighters remaining at the property for just over an hour.
It has been reported that smoke could be seen rising into the sky above the premises.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on Wednesday, September 16 at 10am to an incident at Verrills Fish Shop.
"Four fire appliances were in attendance from Hartlepool, Billingham and Stockton.

"The stop call was received at 11.05am."
The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.
Firefighters left the scene after the stop message was issued at 11.05am, indicating the situation had been brought under control.
