Greggs has unveiled a giant savoury pastry it is jokingly calling its “biggest technological breakthrough yet”.
Dubbed the Bake Duo, it combines two of Greggs’ signature bakes in one and was teased this week with the caption: "Our biggest technological breakthrough yet. Two. Bakes."
It comes after a new Apple iPhone Duo has been announced - a new device which will fold and open up into two screens.
Greggs is known for light-hearted marketing and new-product stunts that regularly grab public attention.
And while it appears the sausage roll brand is joking, fans want the double pastry dream to come true.
While it remains unclear whether the Bake Duo will become a real fixture on the menu, excitement is already brewing.
One person commented: "For me this is as big as splitting the atom."
Another comment read: "If it works for tea bags, it can work for bakes."
One other hailed it as "revolutionary". "This is the Duo we have been asking for," said another.
Another said: "Will there be a sausage roll duo!?"
Greggs was founded in Newcastle in 1939 and remains a staple of the North East, with around 202 shops across the region.
This includes branches in Darlington, County Durham, Hartlepool, Stockton, and Middlesbrough.
The company now operates around 2,700 stores nationwide and plans to open approximately 120 net new outlets in 2026, after increasing its estate by more than 120 locations in 2025.
