A Sunderland road has been closed overnight after a person was hit by a car.
Police and paramedics were called to Nissan Way, near the Nissan plant, at 1am this morning (September 11) following a crash.
The road was closed northbound from the A1231 Sunderland Highway (Nissan factory Roundabout) to Cherry Blossom Way following the incident and remains shut.
The closure has sparked delays, as all traffic heading towards the Nissan factory is diverted along the A1290.
It is not yet known how many vehicles were involved in the crash or whether anyone has been injured.
Northumbria Police said: "At 1am today (Friday) we received a report via the ambulance service of a collision on Nissan Way in Sunderland.
"Emergency services are in attendance and a section of the road remains closed to motorists."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said, "We received a call at 12.52am this morning (September 11) to reports of a road traffic incident involving a car and a pedestrian outside Wearside Farm on Nissan Way in Sunderland.
"We sent an emergency ambulance crew, a clinical team leader, Hazardous Area Response Team, a doctor and a specialist paramedic to the scene."

AA stated: “Road closed, crash, detour in operation.
“Road closed due to a crash on Nissan Way Northbound from A1231 Sunderland Highway (Nissan Roundabout) to Cherry Blossom Way.
“Detour in operation - via the A1290. All traffic for the car factory will need to use the A1290 for access.”
