Drivers face police action if they keep ignoring restrictions in Darlington town centre’s pedestrian zone.
Darlington Borough Council says more motorists are driving through the Northgate pedestrian zone between the A167 roundabout and Crown Street.
The restrictions are designed to protect shoppers in one of the town centre’s busiest areas.
Buses and hackney taxis can use the route all day, while delivery vehicles are allowed in between 5pm and 10am.
But the council says some motorists are still using the road illegally.
The council said it had received more reports of drivers ignoring the restrictions and reminded motorists they cannot use the road at any time.
A spokesperson said: "The restrictions are in place to protect pedestrians whilst ensuring access for buses and hackney taxis all day, and for deliveries between 5pm and 10am.
"Drivers are reminded they are not allowed to use this stretch of road at any time.
"Police are monitoring the situation and will consider action against any drivers who ignore the restrictions."
A previous police operation in the area resulted in several drivers being issued £50 fixed penalty notices.

Motorists are urged to check the signs before entering the town centre and follow the restrictions.
Police and council officers will keep monitoring the area as more drivers ignore the restrictions.
Durham Police has been approached for comment.
