A play café in County Durham has opened to a warm welcome from families across the region.

Little Adventure Town, located on Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland, launched last Monday (August 31) and is already proving popular with visitors from as far as Barnard Castle, Darlington and Middlesbrough.

The indoor play centre was created by Hannah Jones and her mother, Tracey Furness, who were both made redundant before starting the venture.

Hannah Jones, mum-of-one, said: "The response has been amazing.

"We started off with a couple of sell-out days and we've been really busy across the board.

"The support has been wonderful.

"We were really blown away."

Hannah added: "People have been so patient while we get used to the systems, but we really couldn't have asked for a better start.

"We're really grateful that people have gone out of their way to come."

The café, based in the former Bonmarché store, features themed play stations including a castle, farm shops and a large sandpit.

Ms Jones said the project has been a family effort: "It’s been all hands on deck.

"My stepdad has built all of our play buildings. He worked tirelessly.

"We were so excited to open, and to see all the children here makes it all worth it."

The café has received glowing reviews from customers.

One person said: "Gorgeous play café.

"Love how staff interact with children as well and end the session with dancing.

"This is so lovely. We will be regulars."

In addition to role-play zones, the venue offers sensory play, baby and toddler groups.

Parents aren't forgotten about at Little Adventure Town, which offers cakes, pancakes, sandwiches, breakfast buns, milkshakes and more.

The café is open Tuesday to Sunday with a variety of sessions each day.
