Search for owner after dog rescued near Souter Lighthouse

The dog was recovered from the beach cliffside near Souter Lighthouse on September 4 by coastguard rescue teams.

The pooch is believed to be registered to a Seaham address.

Seaham Coastguard, Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) said the dog appeared fit and well before appealing for its owners to come forward.

The dog was taken to Vets for Pets in South Shields following the rescue.

The dog was then handed over to the dog warden.

A spokesperson for Seaham Coastguard said: "Appeal for dog owner, Seaham area.

"Seaham Coastguard, Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team and South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB) have recovered a dog from the base of the cliff near to Souter Lighthouse, she seems fit and well, but we are trying to locate the owner.

"We believe it is registered to a Seaham address.

"If you have any information can you please comment or message the page"

A spokesperson for Vets for Pets said: "Update: dog now with dog warden.

"This little one was brought into us by the Coastguard after retrieving her from the cliffs Whitburn way.

"She is microchipped but unable to contact the owner.

"Please call us if she is your dog on 0191 456 2211"
