A major STEM event is returning to Darlington this autumn.
Destination STEM Hopetown will take place over two days at the town’s Hopetown railway attraction on October 13 and 14, with about 2,000 pupils aged 10 to 13 expected to attend.
Cllr Chris McEwan, cabinet member for economy, said: "I’m delighted to see Destination STEM Hopetown returning for its second year with the fact the event is already at capacity with almost two months to go, demonstrating the level of appetite and enthusiasm across our borough for a unique and useful event such as this.
"By bringing education and industry together, we are aiming to inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, scientists, and technology professionals as well as helping young people make informed choices about their future."
Hosted by Darlington Borough Council, the event will feature nearly 50 exhibitors including Cummins, Teesside University, Northumbrian Water, Magnet, Martin Brower, and Hitachi.
Exhibitors will showcase STEM career opportunities through hands-on activities, presentations, and interactive displays.
The event aims to connect students directly with employers, industry experts, and education providers, raising awareness of the broad and rewarding career opportunities within STEM fields.
Cllr McEwan said: "This is also a fantastic opportunity for those businesses who operate in the STEM sectors to showcase their organisation to the workforce of the future."

Cummins is among the event’s key supporters, alongside Husqvarna, Willmott Dixon, North East STEM Foundation, Darlington Building Society, Darlington College, and Amazon.
