A historic County Durham village just outside Spennymoor has been praised for retaining its rural character despite being only a short distance from Durham City.
Tudhoe has a history stretching back centuries and is known for its traditional village green, historic buildings and surrounding countryside.
Visitors have described the settlement as peaceful and picturesque, while its location means it remains within easy reach of both Spennymoor and Durham.
The village has medieval origins and developed considerably during the 19th century as coal mining expanded across County Durham.
Despite that industrial history, parts of Tudhoe have retained the appearance of an older rural settlement.
Stone-built properties, mature trees and open green spaces remain among its most recognisable features.
At the heart of the older village is Tudhoe Green.
The large open space is surrounded by historic homes and helps distinguish Tudhoe from more heavily developed parts of the surrounding area.
It remains a focal point for the village and is regularly highlighted by visitors exploring the area on foot.
Tudhoe also has a significant place in County Durham's religious history.
Tudhoe Hall was associated with Catholic families during periods when Catholics faced persecution in England.
The village later became home to St Charles' Catholic Church, reflecting the area's long-standing Catholic connections.
Those historic links give Tudhoe a character which differs from many of the former mining communities around Spennymoor.
The village is also surrounded by walking routes and countryside.
Paths lead towards Croxdale, Sunderland Bridge and areas around the River Wear, providing a contrast with the more built-up settlements nearby.
Its location is another part of Tudhoe's appeal.

Its village green, historic buildings and countryside surroundings have helped Tudhoe remain one of the more distinctive settlements on the outskirts of Spennymoor.
