A North Yorkshire primary school has received a grant to develop a dedicated room for before and after school care.
Crakehall School, a Church of England school in Bedale, has been given £350 from the Broadacres’ Community and Sustainability Fund, a programme which delivers social, environmental, or shared benefits for local people.
Charlotte Johnson, Chair of the Friends of Crakehall School, said it is increasingly important for schools to provide wraparound care due to the working hours of many parents.
At Crakehall, this is available every day from 8am to 6pm, with breakfast and tea options available.
Charlotte said: “We like to get children outdoors in the fresh air, but that’s not always possible, so this dedicated room will help us provide stimulating indoor activities.
“We look to create a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment that supports children’s wellbeing, as well as their social, emotional and physical development.
“Some of the resources we have had for years are now looking a little worn, so we are very grateful for the grant. It will be used to purchase Lego and other indoor toys and games, creative materials and quiet-area resources.”

Spaces in the school’s Breakfast Club cost £5, or £2.50 for breakfast not included.

The Tea Timers after school club costs £3 until 4pm, or £10 until 6pm.
The school also offers a range of after school clubs, such as karate, science, music and Lego.
The Broadacres Community and Sustainability Fund provides grants of up to £500, or up to £1,000 in exceptional cases.
