Another cable theft has brought Metro services to a halt, causing major disruption for passengers today.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning (August 26), and led to a full suspension of trains between South Shields and Pelaw on the Yellow Line.
Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro, confirmed the cause and impact on services.
A statement from Nexus said: "We have a service suspension on the Yellow Line between Pelaw and South Shields in both directions due to cable theft.
"We are working to resolve this now and aim to restore services as quickly as possible.
"Trains are running to all other stations but may not be to the usual timetable.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience."
A Nexus map showed where Metros were affected.
Go North East bus services accepted Metro Pop cards and tickets between Heworth and South Shields during the disruption.
Trains continued to run across the rest of the network, though not to the usual timetable, with delays having a knock-on effect across services.
Nexus thanked passengers for their patience during the disruption.
