A driver has been fined more than £750 and handed six penalty points after being caught speeding on the A1(M) in County Durham.
Andy Walton, 54, of Gibside Terrace, Burnopfield, pleaded guilty to exceeding the 70mph motorway speed limit.
The case was dealt with at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, August 13.
The court heard that on February 20 this year, Walton was driving a BMW on the A1(M) between Junction 63 at Chester-le-Street and Junction 62 at Durham when he was caught travelling above the 70mph limit.
The offence was detected using manned speed enforcement equipment.

Walton was fined £769, with his guilty plea taken into account, and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.
He was also ordered to pay £130 in costs and a £308 victim surcharge, taking the total financial penalty to £1,207.
A collection order was issued, with Walton ordered to pay the amount in monthly instalments of £200 from September 10.
