Firefighters have been called to a woodland blaze near Bishop Auckland.
Emergency services were called to Gurney Valley, near Close House at Coundon Grange, after a fire broke out earlier today (August 15).
An image from the scene shows a section of the smouldering woodland, which has been scorched by flames.
The County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) said the fire is now under control and crews remain at the scene dampening down.
The extent of the damage is not known at this stage.
The incident comes after County Durham firefighters dealt with more than 1,000 calls amid scorching temperatures this week, including battles to save homes from blazes.

A spokesperson said: "We currently have three crews in attendance at a woodland fire near Gurney Valley, Close House.
"The fire is now under control and crews remain at the scene damping down.
"Local residents are advised to avoid the area if possible and keep doors and windows closed."
