A North East care service resident has been recognised for his determination and personal growth after winning an award for his achievements in education.
William, who lives at Hope House in Hartlepool, received the Most Improved Learner Award from Northallerton PLC, a North Yorkshire-based college.
The award celebrates William's progress, resilience and kindness throughout his two years of study.
Jamie Speight, service manager at Hope House, said: "The nomination alone was a tremendous recognition of the dedication, commitment, and progress he has shown throughout his learning journey.
"On the day, he was both surprised and delighted when his name was announced as the winner.
"While the result came as a shock to him, it was thoroughly deserved and a testament to the hard work, resilience, and determination he has demonstrated over time."
William has become a familiar face at the college, regularly helping staff and taking on new challenges.
He has also developed a keen interest in baking and has tried activities such as indoor climbing.
When he first joined Northallerton PLC, William struggled to connect with others and engage in learning.
With support from staff, he has grown in confidence and now plays an active role in college life.
Mr Speight said: "This achievement highlights the positive impact that perseverance and a willingness to learn can have, and we could not be prouder of what he has accomplished.
"His success is an inspiration to others and a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved with commitment and self-belief."
Hope House is part of the Cygnet Social Care division and provides residential care for adults with learning disabilities.
A spokesperson from Northallerton PLC described William as "a kind and supportive friend" who "enjoys meeting people in the community" and "regularly helps staff."
William was described as "over the moon" to be nominated and took great pride in the recognition, even buying a new outfit for the awards ceremony.
