Three people have been taken to hospital after a serious three-vehicle crash in Seaham.
Police and paramedics, including an air ambulance, were called to Lord Byron's Walk at 6.35pm today (August 12) following a crash.
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent a number of ambulance crews to the scene before taking three people to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
The ambulance service has confirmed that two of the three have serious injuries.
Durham Police said the road was expected to be closed for some time and urged drivers to find an alternate route.
A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call to a three vehicle road traffic incident on Lord Byron's Walk in Seaham at 6.35pm this evening (12 August).
“We sent three emergency ambulance crews, a clinical team leader, air ambulance and a specialist paramedic.
“Three patients were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital, of which two had serious injuries."

A police spokesperson said: “Lord Byron's Walk at the junction with Stockton Road, in Seaham, is currently closed following a road traffic collision.
“The road is expected to be closed for some time and drivers are asked to find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience. We will update you when we can.”
