Alnmouth has been hailed as one of the best dog-friendly coastlines in northern England, in Time Out's latest beach list.
While most sandy spots have a strict no dogs rule, or ask beachgoers to keep their furry friend on a lead, this Northumberland spot does not.
Dogs have the freedom to stretch their legs along the North Sea without restriction.
The dog-friendly nature of the area isn't the only crowning feature of Alnmouth, as it boasts plenty of cafes and restaurants providing “plenty for humans”.
Famed for its colourful houses and golden sand, Alnmouth was also listed amongst the best seaside towns in the UK, in Time Out.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the beach stretches two miles, providing the perfect place for coastal exploration.
Completely juxtaposing this idyllic exploration of the coast is the serene nature of simply standing still.
Alnmouth’s varying species of birds allow for plenty of bird-gazing in the sunshine, plus there are plenty of great views at restaurants and cafés in the area.

How to get to Alnmouth from Darlington
For those in Darlington, the Northumberland beach is also within easy reach, making it a potential option for a day trip.
By car, Alnmouth is roughly 70 miles from Darlington, with the journey taking around an hour and a half depending on traffic.
The journey largely follows the A1 north before heading towards Alnwick and the coast, meaning visitors can swap the streets of Darlington for the North Sea in relatively little time.
There is also the option of travelling by train from Darlington to Alnmouth station.
The station is around a mile and a half from the village itself, meaning visitors can make the journey without having to worry about parking.
Away from the beach
After the beach exploration is complete, there is no shortage of places to stop for some food or a cheeky drink.
One option is The Sun Inn, situated in the heart of Alnmouth and offering a chance for visitors to relax after a long day in the sun.
The pub provides another reason for visitors to venture beyond the beachside, with the village's colourful streets, independent businesses and places to eat all adding to the Alnmouth experience.
For the dog owners, the combination of open sand, coastal walks and a welcoming village could make Alnmouth an appealing alternative to some of the more restrictive beaches further south.
Nearby Alnwick is home to its famous castle and gardens, while Warkworth and its historic castle are also within reach.
With its two-mile coastline, dog-friendly approach, picturesque village and plethora of options to eat and drink, it is easy to see why this beach has caught the attention of Time Out.
