According to World Atlas, the two hotspots stood out for their historic scenery and picturesque rivers.

Durham Cathedral, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, was praised particularly highly for its historical roots, with its cathedral dating back to 1093, and its accessible volunteering roles.
There are plenty of community events, hidden-gem cafes, world-class restaurants and independent shops in the city.
A noticeable mention also came to the surrounding area, with Kynren night show labelled as "exciting" and Beamish as equally fun.
The phrase "newcomers welcome" has seemingly helped make the historic city so appealing to retirees.
Newcastle’s inclusion on the list continued this theme of easy exploration, though perhaps through a more modern look.
Gateshead Millennium Bridge and old Tyne Bridge took the stage, both “impressively” framing the city.
