A County Durham farm shop is about to sell a ham and pease pudding stottie big enough to feed a family.
Holmside Farm Fresh, based near Burnhope, will launch its "family size" ham and pease pudding stottie on Thursday, August 13, with the sandwich measuring an eye-watering 10 inches across.
The idea came about almost by accident, according to Alex Richardson Robson, 52, who runs the family-run farm shop with her husband.
"Literally we make hundreds of ham and pease pudding sandwiches a week, and I thought, 'shall we make a family giant stottie for a family picnic,'" she said.
"And it looked amazing."
The sandwich is stuffed with the shop's own roasted ham, carved straight from its in-house butchery, layered with Durham pease pudding and packed inside a traditional stottie from local bakery Dents, based in nearby Esh Winning.
Richardson Robson said supporting other small, local businesses was central to the giant stottie's appeal.
"It's a local produce sandwich, which we love to support our local artisans," she said.
"It's a hard time for independent small businesses, and quality is everything to us."
News of the sandwich, shared on Facebook on Wednesday (August 5), prompted an immediate reaction from customers, with the farm shop warning fans to move quickly once it goes on sale.
"We want to make sure we've got plenty in stock, so we don't disappoint our very valued customers," Richardson Robson said.
"So set those alarms – you'll want to be quick for this one."
Social media users were quick to share their excitement at the prospect of the mammoth sandwich.
Gary Welford wrote: "Now that's a proper sandwich," while Melanie Tye simply said: "Wow that's a sandwich."
For some, the appeal went beyond the size of the stottie.

Angela Spink, who said she had struggled to find pease pudding since moving away from the North East, wrote: "Omg I would love a slice. Since moving to Leeds there's no pease pudding."
Holmside Farm Fresh, which operates from Whiteside Farm on Holmside Lane, is known locally for its on-site butchery, farm shop and deli counter, selling everything from fresh meat to home-baked cakes and sandwiches.
The giant stottie will go on sale from Thursday, with customers advised to get there early to avoid missing out.
