Emergency repairs after a burst water main on a Bishop Auckland street left around 150 homes without water for several hours.

Northumbrian Water was alerted to the burst on Rosemount Road at approximately 2.35am on Wednesday, July 29, after a customer reported the problem.

Repair teams were sent to the scene and completed the work by 9.25am.

Around 150 customers lost their water supply from approximately 5am until the repairs were finished. Other properties in the surrounding area experienced low water pressure while the work was carried out.

Two-way traffic lights remain in place at the site and are set to stay until at least Friday while road reinstatement works are carried out.

Northumbrian Water thanked customers for their patience while the essential works are carried out.

A spokesperson for Northumbrian Water said: "At approximately 2.35 am on July 29 we received notification from a customer reporting a burst water main on Rosemount Road, Bishop Auckland.

"Our teams responded quickly and carried out repairs, which were successfully completed at 9.25am.

"Around 150 customers were directly affected, experiencing a loss of water supply from approximately 5am until the repair was completed. Some customers in the wider area may have experienced low water pressure during this period. Our network is currently restoring, and all customers are now back in supply.

"Two-way traffic lights remain in place at the site and will stay in operation until at least Friday while we complete road reinstatement works.

"We would like to thank customers and road users for their patience while we carried out these essential repairs."
