A Teesside leisure centre has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award, placing it among the leading leisure facilities in the North of England.

Eston Leisure Centre, which is operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, has been named a finalist in the 2026 ukactive Awards.

It will compete in the 'Regional Public Club/Centre of the Year – North of England' category and is also in contention for the national Outstanding Club/Centre of the Year award.

The recognition comes following the redevelopment of the centre, which now boasts a range of modern facilities including a 25-metre swimming pool, learner pool with sensory lighting, an 88-station gym, group fitness studios and a sports hall capable of hosting regional and national events.

The site also features six padel courts, squash facilities and an indoor bowls arena.

The ukactive Awards celebrate excellence across the health, fitness and physical activity sector, recognising organisations that have demonstrated innovation and commitment to improving health and wellbeing within their communities.

Eston Leisure Centre will now progress to the next stage of the judging process, which includes further assessments such as mystery visits and a digital review.

Winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on Thursday, October 8.

Paul Ayre, area contract manager for Everyone Active, said: "It's a huge honour to be shortlisted for the ukactive Awards and this reflects the hard work and dedication the site team has put in over the past year.

"Led by the general manager, Elizabeth Spencer, they have done a fantastic job.

"To be selected as a finalist is an achievement in itself and we'd like to thank all our members for their ongoing support. We look forward to October's awards ceremony and in the meantime will continue to focus on getting the local community active."

The nomination places Eston Leisure Centre among the region's top leisure venues and recognises the role it plays in providing sporting, fitness and wellbeing opportunities for residents across Redcar and Cleveland.
