A much‑loved Italian wine bar and kitchen will be bringing a slice of Sicily to a redeveloped former prison site in North Yorkshire.

Veeno, the Italian wine bar and restaurant brand, is preparing to open at Northallerton’s Treadmills development, adding a new food and drink destination to the town’s transformed former jail.

The venue promises authentic Italian wine and food, with guests invited to “taste Italy”.

The brand, which first opened in 2013, is known for serving Sicilian wines from its family vineyard alongside fresh pasta, pizza, Italian tapas‑style dishes and sharing boards.

Its sites specialise in wine tastings, aperitivo and informal dining, with a focus on pairing bottles with classic Italian plates.

Veeno already has a strong following in the North, including a popular riverside restaurant in Durham.

The wider Treadmills development has turned the old jail into a mixed leisure, retail and business complex with a cinema, shops, offices and education space, and has been hailed as a major regeneration project for North Yorkshire.

Treadmills is already home to an Everyman cinema, national retailers, offices and education facilities, with North Yorkshire Council and developer Wykeland Group describing it as a key part of Northallerton’s regeneration.

The arrival of Veeno is expected to add to the evening and weekend offer there.

It gives visitors and residents another option for date nights, gatherings and post‑cinema drinks within walking distance of the high street.

The brand is encouraging customers to keep an eye on its social media channels for opening details and booking information as it gets ready to welcome diners.
