An update has been issued by police who were investigating the discovery of a dead dog in a County Durham park.
Officers were called to Ferryhill Nature Reserve in County Durham shortly before 10pm on Sunday, July 12, after reports were made of the animal being found dead near the path.
On arrival, police found the dog, which was described as being "largely decomposed."

At the time, a spokesperson for Durham police said: "We were called to reports of a dog dead at Ferryhill Nature Reserve just before 10pm last night (July 12).
"Officers attended and found the dog was largely decomposed.
"Enquiries are ongoing to identify its owner."
Now, a spokesperson for Durham police has confirmed that there was no foul play involved in the incident and the probe will be closed.
A spokesperson for Durham police said: “An investigation has been carried out and, after reviewing all the evidence, there isn't believed to be any foul play.
"So the investigation will be closed.”
