A much-loved hotel in the heart of Northumberland has been put on the market with a £1.4m asking price.

The Warkworth House Hotel on Bridge Street is being sold through property agents Christie & Co.

The Grade II*-listed building dates back to the early 19th century and is packed with period features, including an impressive central staircase with links to historic royalty.

It sits just yards from Warkworth Castle and the River Coquet, in one of Northumberland’s busiest coastal villages for tourists.

The ground floor has a public bar and separate restaurant and breakfast room, with space for around 60 diners served by a large catering kitchen.

Upstairs are 14 individually styled bedrooms spread over three floors, including three suites, all with en-suite bathrooms.

Extra rooms on the top floor are currently used for storage and laundry but could be turned into more guest rooms or staff accommodation.

Next door, a two-bedroom cottage offers either owner’s accommodation or extra holiday-let income, with a kitchen, large lounge and family bathroom.

Recent accounts show the hotel took in £818,000 in the year to March 2025, with profits of £140,000, and trading has improved further since last spring.

The current owners, who have spent years building up its reputation and repeat business, are selling as they plan to retire.

With demand for places to stay on the Northumberland coast continuing to grow, Christie & Co say the sale offers a rare chance to buy a sizeable, well-known hotel in an area surrounded by popular spots such as Amble, Alnmouth, and Bamburgh.
