A North East dog owner has been fined for failing to microchip their dog after being served an official notice by the council.
Brogan Readshaw, of Ashbourne Avenue, Bridlington, was ordered to pay a total of £438 after two offences were proved at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on July 14.
The court heard that on or before February 20, Readshaw had failed to microchip a dog within 21 days of receiving a notice from Durham County Council, which is required by the Microchipping of Cats and Dogs (England) Regulations 2023.

Readshaw was fined £220 for this offence, ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £88 and prosecution costs of £130.
Additionally, Readshaw was found to have allowed a dog to stray within a restricted area in Ferryhill on January 19, 2026, breaching a public spaces protection order.
No separate penalty was given for this offence.
