A Newton Aycliffe woman has been banned from keeping dogs for 10 years after causing unnecessary suffering to two pets.

Evelyn Marie Hillary, 33, of Langdale Place, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on July 15.

Hillary admitted failing to act on the poor bodily condition and weight loss of a white bull breed dog called Billy and a brindle bull breed dog called Rolo, in Newton Aycliffe between October 20 and December 3, 2025.

The court heard Hillary knew, or ought to have known, her inaction would cause unnecessary suffering, breaching the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

She was fined £120, ordered to pay a £48 surcharge to fund victim services, and £50 in costs.

A collection order was made to recover the total sum of £218 through benefit deductions.

The 10-year ban prevents Hillary from owning, keeping, or being involved in keeping dogs. Her guilty plea was taken into account during sentencing.
