Saltburn woman set to open bagel shop Betty's Bagels

Rebecca Cole is preparing to open Betty's Bagels just in time for Saltburn's Food Festival on Sunday, July 26.

The 27-year-old recruitment agency owner says her real passion is food, and has decided now is the time for something different.

She said: "It's always been something I want to do.

"I've worked in recruitment for the past ten years.

"It's always been the plan to do a good few years of graft and making enough money and the putting that money into something I'm really passionate about.

"I've been travelling for two years and I came back and the unit became available and I just thought, let's just do it."

Rebecca wants to create something different for Saltburn as she believes there's nothing like Betty's in the area.

"It's a lot of the same, so I wanted to create something that's got a good social media presence and is trendy.

"I've seen how well other businesses have done with bagel shops like in Newcastle and York.

"I wanted to bring something like that to a more remote area."

For Rebecca the name has a special meaning, with Betty's being a homage to her grandma, Elizabeth.

"She was Betty for short and my middle name was after her.

"She used to always make homemade goods, so I want to give it that vibe of somewhere homely, familiar and nostalgic."

Support has been flooding in for Rebecca's since she announced the venture on Facebook.

One social media user commented: "Can't wait to become a regular.

"Good luck with everything."

The Saltburn Food festival takes place next Sunday (July 26) and Rebecca hopes to be ready in time for the visitors, likely as a pop-up but the store will open officially after.
