Staff and service users at a Darlington care service have celebrated team spirit with a sunshine sports day packed with fun and nostalgia.
Cygnet St William’s on Cornwall Avenue, a 12-bed neuropsychiatric service for men with acquired brain injuries, hosted the event to bring together staff and individuals supported through games, laughter, and recognition.
Georgia Nelson, regional lead occupational therapist at Cygnet Health Care, said: "It was an unforgettable day packed with laughter, fun and heartfelt appreciation.
"The atmosphere was electric and the games really brought out everyone’s competitive and playful side."
Classic sports day activities included an egg and spoon race, three-legged races, and sack races, with service users cheering on staff and taking part in the fun.
A barbecue and a visit from an ice cream van helped fuel the day and added to the relaxed, summer atmosphere.
The event was organised by hospital manager, Chelsea Phelan.
The celebrations also included the Cygnet St William’s staff awards, which highlighted team members who consistently go above and beyond.
Award categories included the Smile Maker Award, the Cheerleader Award, and the Professional Night Owl Award.
Ms Nelson said: "Each honour recognised the unique contributions that make our team so exceptional.
"It was a day full of appreciation and joy."

She described the event as a valuable opportunity for everyone at the service to take a break from their daily routines and simply enjoy each other’s company.
Ms Nelson said: "It was a chance for everyone to step away from their daily responsibilities and simply celebrate each other.
"Events like this remind us that behind every achievement is a team of passionate, hardworking people who genuinely care."
