With the holidays fast approaching, the Metrocentre in Gateshead has launched its family fun, offering parents and carers a packed schedule of affordable entertainment for children of all ages.
From netball festivals and live shows to extreme sports demos, retro roller skating, and special dining deals, the popular shopping centre will transform into a hive of activity.
England Netball North East Festival
The summer programme kicks off on Saturday, July 25, with the England Netball North East Festival.
Taking place in Exhibition Square, the one-day event forms part of England Netball’s centenary celebrations and welcomes everyone from beginners to seasoned players.
Youngsters can get hands-on with fun netball activities, including throwing, catching, footwork drills, shooting, and the Supershot challenge.
Information will also be available on clubs and programmes in the area, including Bee Netball for five to 11-year-olds.
Adults who want to return to the sport can learn about Walking Netball, Back to Netball, and the many coaching, officiating, and volunteering opportunities available.
Metrognomes Summer Show
On Monday, July 27, the Metrognomes return with their family summer show, Back to the Metrocentre: Part II.
The beloved characters—Herbert, Sherbet, Maggot and Rusty—will take audiences on a nostalgic journey through some of their most popular past performances.
The free shows run until August 9, with performances in Exhibition Square at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm on weekdays; 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm on Saturdays; and 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm on Sundays.
Half Pipe Ramp Show
Hold onto your hats for a weekend of spins and stunts.
On August 15 and 16, the Half Pipe Ramp Show returns to Exhibition Square, featuring a team of talented riders performing jaw-dropping tricks on a giant ramp.
Sports clubs and organisations from across the North East will also be on hand to share information about getting involved in different activities.
Roller Rink
From August 18 through to Bank Holiday Monday on August 31, the centre brings back its popular Roller Rink for visitors to enjoy a slice of 1980s nostalgia.
Tickets are £5 for each 30-minute session, including skate hire.
The day begins with two Learn to Skate sessions at 9.30am and 10am, followed by a SEND-friendly Quiet Session at 10.30am.
General sessions continue throughout the day and into the evening.
Proceeds support Power Through Sport CIC, an organisation that promotes inclusivity and empowerment through alternative sports.
Dining and Entertainment Offers
A day out at the Metrocentre is set to be even more wallet-friendly, with a range of dining offers across several restaurants.
Children eat free at Yo!, Bella Italia, and Fattoush, with more details available at themetrocentre.co.uk/offers.
Odeon IMAX Cinema is also offering reduced-price child and family tickets as part of its Great British Summer Savings campaign, running until September 1.

Year-Round Attractions
The summer events are in addition to Metrocentre’s existing attractions, including Peppa Pig: Surprise Party (relaunching July 31), Sprinkle Studio, The Upside Down House, The Escapologist, Activate, and Clip n’ Climb.
There’s also Treetop Golf, bowling, dodgems, arcades, and soft play fun at Namco Funscape.
