A man has been ordered to pay £438 after depositing cigarette litter in a public street in Ferryhill.
Billy Sheard, of Rydal Road, Grangefield, Stockton, was found to have thrown down and left a cigarette on Dean Road, Ferryhill, on January 13.
This is an offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The case was heard under the single justice procedure at Peterlee Magistrates' Court, County Durham, on July 7.
Sheard did not attend, according to court documents.
The court issued a fine of £220. Sheard was also ordered to pay an £88 victim services surcharge and £130 in prosecution costs.
A collection order for the payment was made.
