A County Durham woman has been ordered to pay £657 for failing to microchip her dog and letting it stray.
Terri Brierley, of Commercial Street, Ferryhill, was found to have disregarded a notice from Durham County Council requiring her to microchip her dog under the Microchipping of Cats and Dogs (England) Regulations 2023.
The notice was served on January 8. Brierley did not microchip the dog within 21 days as required by law, on or before January 29.

She was also found to have allowed a dog to stray within a restricted area, in breach of The County Council of Durham Dog Control Public Space Protection Order August 2025, on January 8.
Peterlee Magistrates’ Court proved both offences under the single justice procedure on July 7.
Brierley was fined £220, ordered to pay a £88 victim services surcharge, and £349 in costs.
No separate penalty was given for the public spaces offence.
