A new café and bar has arrived at Spennymoor’s Town Hall.

The Pit Stop Café and Bar opened its doors on Wednesday (July 8).

Announcing the opening in a social media post on the Heart of Spennymoor Facebook page, they said: “We’re finally open.

"The kettle’s on, the drinks are chilled, and the team is ready.

"Whether you’re popping in for a coffee, meeting friends for a drink, or visiting the Bob Abley Gallery and Mining Museum, the Pit Stop Café and Bar is officially open and ready to welcome you.”

A spokesperson for the Town Hall said: "The Pit Stop Café & Bar provides visitors with a relaxed place to enjoy refreshments while exploring the building’s rich arts, heritage and community content.

"The new space was officially opened by Spennymoor Town Mayor, Councillor Billy McAloon, and has been designed to strengthen the visitor experience by creating a welcoming link between the Gallery and the Mining Museum.

"Visitors can enjoy the café’s range of refreshments while surrounded by the creative legacy of the mining artists and artefacts celebrating the history of the Durham Coalfields.

"The Bob Abley Art Gallery is home to the Norman Cornish studio, original artworks and prints by Cornish, and work by a range of regional artists, while the Durham Mining Museum showcases objects, stories and a scale replica immersive mine experience."

The Gallery has recently opened its new 'Maker Space' where members of the public are given free access to art equipment and materials.

The town hall hosts various events, including Free Family Activities, concerts, and theatre performances.

The café and bar will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 3:30pm.

The Pit Stop offers homemade cakes, tray bakes, and scones, and a variety of drinks.
