Spennymoor wellbeing café reopens with new owners

Zuna Café, previously Zen Den Wellbeing Coffee Lounge, on Spennymoor’s High Street, has been acquired by new owners Natalia and Attila Simon.

Zen Den Wellbeing Coffee Lounge closed on July 2.

In a social media post, the previous owners, Marie and Gordon, said: "With a heavy heart, sadly our last day at Zen Den is this Thursday (July 2).

"We are happy to be handing the reins to Attila & Natalia whose passion and drive, I’m sure, will be an amazing asset to the community, and we wish them all the success."

Four days later (July 6), the new owners got the keys to the café.

Today, they are welcoming customers back into the much-loved coffee lounge.

Natalia, 31, said: "We’d like to keep it similar to what it is now, with the wellbeing side and keeping it chilled and relaxed.

"We want to highlight community and do more events for families and a chance for people to sit together and create a bit of a village.

"We’re going to continue all the events like the crafts and Reiki.

"I would also like to do something for mums.

"I want to create a place for mums to meet and build friendships and have a place they can go.

"I feel like there isn’t anywhere like that in Spennymoor for mums where they can go with their small kids and just relax and have a chat with an adult."

The Zuna Café has a dedicated meditation room and offers sound baths, yoga, and workshops.

The husband and wife duo also own Petite Street Playtown in Durham.

The Play Café, based in Meadowfield, is created specifically for children aged 0–7 years old and offers interactive role play for the children and a café for the parents.

Natalia, a mum-of-two, said: "We’ve been searching for another place to open for a while because we’re from Spennymoor.

"It came up as a great opportunity, so we went for it."

She added: "We just want to assure people that we’re not coming in to change the place completely.

"We really love what Marie and Gordon (the previous owners) made.

"We want to build on that foundation and add some of our own touches."
