A County Durham town is preparing to welcome back its much-loved miners’ banner parades to coincide with this year’s Durham Miners Gala.

Ferryhill will once again mark the occasion with its traditional parades, held in celebration of the Durham Miners’ Gala.

Ferryhill Miners Banner Committee, supported by Ferryhill Town Council, is organising two parades through the town on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11.

On Friday at 7pm, the Dean & Chapter Banner will lead the procession from the Aged Miners Homes at Dean Bank to Ferryhill Market Place, accompanied by the Ferryhill Town Band and the Mainsforth Colliery Banners.

The following morning at 8am, a second parade will set off from the Surtees Arms Public House, heading to the site of the former Eldon Arms Public House.

These banners will then be transported to Durham City for the Annual Miner’s Gala event.

Road closures will be in place during the parades, using stewards from Hatton Traffic Management and overseen by AH Events.
