Ferryhill held well-attended Armed Forces Day celebrations

On Sunday, June 28, Ferryhill Town Council’s Armed Forces Day celebrations, hosted in Dean Bank Recreation Park, were attended by 2,000 people.

This event followed a ceremony held in the Town Hall Garden at 11am on Friday, June 26, led by Ferryhill’s Mayor, Councillor Curtis Bihari.

The service welcomed ex-Non-Commissioned Officer, Andy Denholm, who served in the 15th/19th The King’s Royal Hussars, to raise the Armed Forces Day flag.

Sunday’s Party in the Park featured live performances from a variety of stage acts, namely Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band, Soldiers of Swing, Danny Wells, and ULEE40.

Sponsored by a multitude of local businesses, in addition to the Ministry of Defence, the event included a range of attractions, from crazy golf to a large assault course.

The celebrations were coordinated by Scott Hillary from AH Events. Councillor Curtis Bihari, who opened the event, said: “It was fantastic to see Ferryhill at its very best.

“Party in the Park was a great opportunity to bring the community together and to showcase everything that’s great about our town.

“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the day while also coming together to mark Armed Forces Week.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along, as well as all of our funders and sponsors, for helping to make the event such a success.”
