Police are investigating after a "verbally aggressive" man approached a woman walking her dog and threw a cycle helmet at her.

The incident happened on June 21 at about 10.30am, when the woman, aged 50, was walking her dog in the Applegarth area of Northallerton and she was involved in an 'incident' with a man.

Police say the man is known to the woman, and that he became verbally aggressive before throwing his cycle helmet at the woman and pushing his bike towards her.

A member of the public came over to help the woman when they heard shouting.
