Crook singer Logan Amos tutored by Sam Fender's guitar teacher

Logan Amos, 16, writes and produces his own music from his bedroom and released his first single, Fly Away, three years ago, aged just 13.

And now that he's finished secondary school, he plans to concentrate on music, studying it at college and writing and releasing new tracks, and he also has his biggest gig yet next month, playing at Sedgefield Racecourse’s Ladies Day on August 28.

He said: "I’m very excited. It’s going to be something new. Something I’ve never experienced before. I just can’t wait for it."

Logan, who has lived in Crook for more than a decade, is tutored by Sam Fender’s old guitar teacher, Phil Martin, to whom Fender credits a lot of his success. Logan wants to create a name for himself, but hopes he'll be able to replicate some of the 'Seventeen Going Under' singer's success.

Logan said: "Phil's amazing. I consider him a close friend now.

"I’ve been working with him for around a year, maybe two.

"Each time I go I learn something new. There’s not one thing that I could sit there and go, ‘I already know this’."

Phil, from North Shields, taught Fender to play the guitar as a child and in 2023 the signer-songwriter brought him out on stage at St James’ Park alongside AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson to perform Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long in front of 50,000 fans.

Logan's interest in music began when he was little, but it was over the last year-and-a-half, he realised that he wants to turn his love of creating music into a career.

He said: "I've been doing gigs and private events. I'm mainly just trying to get my name out there.

"Music has always been by my side as I’ve grown up. I would listen to it every night before I went to bed.

"It’s always been a part of my life. It’s always impacted me and I understand how it affects other people.

"Music is so important to me. I want to have the ability to connect with people and talk to them through music. I want to be able to share ideas and experiences that way instead of just speaking to people.

"I want to be able to help other people as much as I can and inspire people.

"I wanted people to know that a lot of the problems people face, they can overcome.

"Everything’s not as complicated as it may first seem. It’s to show people that everything will be okay in the end."

And his family have always encouraged him to follow his dreams. "Ever since I said I was going to start pursuing music, they have supported me," he added.

"They have always been there to listen to me and give me the constructive criticism I need."

Logan has big plans for the future, including releasing more original music, new singles and working towards an EP.

But his latest challenge, performing at Ladies Day, will be his biggest yet, just days after collecting his GCSE results. The young musician had to balance revision and practice ahead of sitting his exams.

"It was difficult with multiple things on my mind constantly," he said. "But I saw everything as something I enjoy and a hobby instead of seeing it as a job or a chore."

For now, he continues to produce his music from his bedroom, including his latest track 'Emily' - a raw acoustic guitar and vocal recording demo.

The song is about "being able to be yourself", Logan says.

"It's about having that persona you feel is socially acceptable for people to like you. But 'Emily' is your true self and the person you want to be without worrying about what others think of you.

"The line 'be like my Emily' in the song is a representation of saying that you want to be your true self without worry.

But he hopes to soon get into a studio to upgrade the quality.

"I'm currently trying to find a place where I can upgrade and be able to make music that is studio quality."
